Follow these tips to boost the efficiency of your search engine (SEO) and see your website rise to the top of the search engine results
1. Publication of relevant content –
Quality content is your search engine rankings ‘ number one catalyst and there is no substitution for great content. Quality content created specifically for your intended user increases the traffic on the site, thus improving the authority and relevance of your site. Fine-tune your skill to write on the net.
Identify and aim for each page on your website a common keyword phrase. Think about how to search for that particular page with search terms such as:
- masters in engineering management
- what is biomedical engineering?
- title IX resources
- northern lights
- how to apply for scholarships?
- application deadline
Multiple sentences with keywords
A search engine rating of different keyword phrases is very difficult for a web page— unless those phrases are very similar. A single page could list “biomedical engineering jobs” as well as “biomedical engineering occupations.” It is impossible to rank with a single page for “student affairs” and “student dean” or “gender discrimination” and “terrorism reporting procedures.”
If you want to rank several keyword phrases with your website, for each keyword phrase you are targeting, you will need to make a separate webpage.
Once you have selected your keyword phrase for a section, consider the following questions:
1. Can I use some or all of the keyword phrase in the URL section (using directory keywords)?
2. Is it possible to use some or all of the keyword phrase in the title page?
3. Can I use part or all of the keyword phrases in page headings and subheadings?
You can boost your search engine ranking by answering yes to these questions. Nonetheless, be organic and user-friendly. For example, you don’t want the word “technology” to appear in the URL three or more times or repeat the term Northern Lights on the title page and each heading. Readability and accessibility control optimization of the search engine.
Besides page URL, title, and headings, the content of the search engine rankings is most important. Repeat the keyword phrase several times over the entire page — once or twice in the opening and closing paragraphs, and two or four times over the rest of the content.
Don’t forget to use bold, italics, heading tags (especially an H1), and other emphasis tags to emphasize these keyword phrases— but don’t overdo it. You still want to read your style of writing and language naturally. Never compromise for SEO good writing. For the user, the best pages are written, not for the search engine.
2. Regularly update your content–
You’ve probably noticed that content is something we feel pretty good. Search engines are also doing it. Regularly updated content is considered one of the best measures of the quality of a page, so be sure to keep it clean. Test your content on a set schedule (e.g. semesterly) and update when needed.
That page contains a space between the < head > tags for adding metadata or information about your page’s content while developing your website. This information will have been pre-populated for you if you have a CMS page originally produced by the UMC web team.
Nonetheless, because your site changes over time, it is important for you to review and update Metadata.
Title metadata is responsible for the page titles shown at the top of a browser window and as the headline in the results of the search engine. It’s your page’s most important metadata.
Based on your page title, the web team has developed an automated system for those with a CMS website to create the meta title for each web page. It adds to the value of using page titles rich with keyword phrases that are well-thought-out.
Metadata description is the textual description that a browser may use in the search return of your page. Think of it as the window display of your site— a concise and appealing description of what’s in it, with the aim of encouraging people to come in.
There will usually be two complete sentences in a successful meta description. You may not always use your meta description for search engines, but the choice is important to give them.
Keyword metadata is rarely used when tabulating the rankings of search engines. You should know your keyword phrases already, however, so adding them to your keyword metadata does not hurt.
You want a range of phrases to be included. In particular, try to keep it to about 3-7 phrases with 1-4 words in each sentence. “Computer science degree ” would be a great example.
4. Have a link-worthy site-
Concentrate on building relevant links in the message. Instead of making references to “tap here,” try to write the destination name down. “Click here” has no search engine value beyond the attached URL, While the “Michigan Tech Enterprise Program” has a wealth of keywords and will improve your search engine rankings as well as the page ranking to which you link.
Always use concise references when connecting keywords — it not only increases the efficiency of the search engine but also adds value to your users, including those with disabilities or using screen readers.
5. Use alt tags –
Please use alt tags or alternative text descriptions to identify your visual or video content. They allow search engines to locate your crucial page — especially for those using text-only browsers or screen readers.
